How to Figure Out How Many Turns an RC Motor Has
- 1). Remove the various parts of the car until you extract the motor from the body of the car, making sure that any screws and connections are disconnected to avoid breaking it. Place the screws and pieces in a clearly defined place so no parts are lost before re-assembly.
- 2). Check the motor to see if it lists the number of windings. Some motors have this listed on a nameplate on the outside, with a number followed by the letter "T," indicating turns. If this number is not listed, you will have to open up the motor. Gently remove the housing from the motor, or bend the clips that hold it to the armature.
- 3). Count the number of coils on the armature. This can be done simply by counting the number of lines perpendicular to the armature, instead of counting by following the loop around the axis and seeing how many times it makes a full circle. As many armatures have coils that wrap around dozens or hundreds of times, it's best to count how many turns there are multiple times. To ensure accuracy, either average the values you counted, or make sure they all match. Put your vehicle back together.
