- 1). Check to make sure that the wash cycle button has been pressed all the way in. If it is, it may need to be replaced. First, you will want to test the button to make sure it is getting juice and not worn out. Unplug the unit.
- 2). Test to see if your selector switch is bad. Remove the washing machine's cycle selector switch. Most selector switches are secured with a few screws. Remove the screws, then remove the terminal wires from each terminal one at a time. Each of the terminal wires will be grouped in pairs, one group for each button. Remove the wire harness that leads from the first switch with a pair of needle nose pliers. Set your ohmmeter at a scale of Rx1 to measure the resistance. Touch the metal tips of the leads together and adjust your ohmmeter to zero by adjusting the thumbwheel. Test one button at a time. Remove the wires from the harness and push in the button of the switch. The ohmmeter should go back to infinity. Replace the wire harness and move to the next. If the readings are not accurate or vary, the switch is likely bad and needs to be replaced.
- 3). Unscrew the selector switch from the washer. You will need to unscrew it at the door of the machine. Remove the wire harness from each terminal (one for each button). Take the wires and attach them to the terminals of the new switch. Secure the switch with screws. Plug the machine back in.
