How Do I Replace a 1997 Miata EGR Valve?
- 1). Park the Miata, shut off the engine and open the hood.
- 2). Put on safety glasses and disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery using a wrench.
- 3). Locate the EGR valve, on the rear of the intake manifold.
- 4). Depress the clip on the electrical connector that attaches to the EGR valve and unplug the connector.
- 5). Remove the two mounting bolts with a ratchet or wrench and gently pull the EGR and the gasket behind the unit free.
- 6). Clean the mating surface of the intake manifold using an old rag and gasket scraper tool, if necessary.
- 7). Apply a 1/8-inch strip of gasket sealant along the outer edge of one side of the new gasket and position it on the mounting surface of the new intake manifold. Be sure to line up the bolt holes on the gasket with the bolt holes on the intake manifold.
- 8). Connect the new EGR valve to the engine. Reinsert the two bolts and tighten to approximately 20 foot-pounds of torque using a torque wrench.
- 9). Reconnect the electrical connector to the EGR valve.
