How to Change Oil With a MerCruiser Easy Oil Drain System
- 1). Start the motor and let it idle for several minutes to warm up, then shut the motor off.
- 2). Loosen the oil filter and remove the oil fill cap to help vent the engine and equalize the pressure as you remove the used oil. Remove the bilge drain plug by turning it counterclockwise, using a wrench to help break it loose. Pull the connected tether through the bilge drain until the oil drain hose comes out.
- 3). Place the tip of the oil drain hose in an empty container and, using a wrench, remove the drain plug from the hose. Allow the oil to completely drain out, then replace the plug, tightening it securely. Push the hose back into the bilge drain and replace the bilge drain plug.
- 4). Unscrew the oil filter and remove it. Apply a small amount of fresh engine oil to the rubber gasket on the new filter and screw it onto the engine. When the gasket comes into contact with the engine, turn the filter 3/4 turn, then stop tightening.
- 5). Fill the engine with fresh motor oil. Consult the documentation for your specific engine model to determine what amount and type of oil is appropriate for your application.
