How to Repair a WMV File
- 1). Download ASF-AVI-RM-WMV Repair Tool (see Resources). Left-click on the highlighted "free download" link.
- 2). Allow your computer to install the repair program. The program will read your video files and present a list of the file names. Select your corrupt files by highlighting them with your mouse.
- 3). Click on the "Repair" icon button at the top of the screen. The program will repair corrupted files and give you notice once it is finished.
- 4). Play your corrected files in Windows Media Player. Close the repair program.
- 1). Download Windows Media File editor and an encoder program (see Resources). Occasionally WMV files corruption is repaired using Windows tools. For example if the video sound is not synced with the picture or you are not able to convert the video file, you will use Windows Media editor to re-index the file.
- 2). Open Windows Media Editor and select your corrupt file.
- 3). Open the main file menu and select "Save and Index." Try playing your file in Windows Media Player.
- 1). Make two copies of your corrupted WMV file. Save the copies of the corrupted file to a disc or your hard drive.
- 2). Send the corrupted file to a data recovery expert by email (see Resources). Attached the file to the email. Send a labeled CDR copy in the event the file will not attach to an email. Your data recovery expert will contact you to explain the type of damage to the file and if recovery is possible.
- 3). Play your repaired WMV file. Save your repaired file and delete the two copies of the corrupted original file.
