    Daily Cleaning

    • Wipe off your glass-top range with a clean, damp paper towel or sponge. Use a circular motion to clean the surface. Dry the area with a soft towel to avoid leaving any streaks. Make sure the glass top is cool before you wipe it down. Most ranges have a heat indicator light that goes off when the stove is cool enough to touch. If your range has more spills or food on it than usual, you may want to wear oven mitts and clean it while it is still a bit warm, according to the Whirlpool website.

    Burnt-On Foods

    • Use a commercial glass-top range cleaner for burnt-on foods. Read the directions on your particular brand of cleaner. Some require that you allow the cream or liquid cleanser to dry, and others state that it should be used while wet. Either way, most recommend using a cook-top scraper or razor blade with the solution in order to clean off dried or burnt-on foods. Avoid using the corner of the razor blade to clean the glass top--this can scratch the surface, according to the MG Services website. Hold the razor blade flat against the surface and use firm back-and-forth strokes. Make sure to buff the area with a soft, dry towel to remove all of the cleaner after scraping away the residue.

    Repairing Small Scratches and Abrasions

    • Rub your cream or liquid cleanser into the scratches and wipe with a soft cloth until any residue disappears. Tiny scratches and rough spots will not affect the performance of your glass-top range, and after a few treatments the imperfections will become less noticeable. If you have deep scratches, contact the manufacturer for advice. Never use steel wool, ammonia, abrasive cleaners or rust removers on your glass-top range, as these can cause permanent damage.
