A good first impression at an interview or when working at your job can earn you respect and honor from employers, co-workers and clients. It's important to maintain a professional look at work in order to improve your chances of career advancement and to earn respect. Following the basic rules for professional dress will keep you looking sharp and respectable in the workplace. - Men should keep beards and mustaches neatly trimmed, eyebrows should be shaped, and nose hair and ear hair trimmed. Women should shave their legs and armpits, shape their eyebrow, and remove any facial hair. Women should not use heavy or unnatural-looking makeup; instead, it is advisable to use light, natural-looking makeup, with the hair neatly pulled back. Colognes and perfumes should be used sparingly.
- Men should wear dark blue, gray or charcoal suits that are well-tailored with a white button-up shirt underneath and a conservative tie. Women should wear dark blue, gray or charcoal skirt suits with a white blouse underneath. Women can also wear business suits or pants suits as an alternative to the skirt suit. Ties are optional for women but must be conservative.
- For men, shoes should be high-quality lace-up shoes that are professionally shined. Women should wear black or brown high heels or fashionable flat shoes that are polished to a shine.
- Men should not wear low-quality wristwatches, body piercings or earrings. Women should not wear more than one necklace or one set of earrings. Tattoos and other forms of body art should be covered at all times.
