And for many other smokers, though it is not the reason why they want to smoke cigarettes, the cause they don't want to quit may be because they will gain weight after they try to quit.

Eat slowly for one. Chew your food longer to satisfy your oral cravings. Apart from taking your craving away from cigarettes, this will also help you to not gain weight.

Another way to fight the smoking craving after your meal is to have a glass of water on hand. Whenever smoking thoughts come to your mind, take a sip of water. Keep your mind busy. We said water, as smoking has been connected with alcohol as well, don't take drinks while you eat. Choose water instead, so you will not be tempted with cigarettes, and not to add on to your caloric intake.

After meals, it is also good to do exercises. Instead of having a stick at the end of meals, just go ahead and stretch your muscles. Go for a walk, take a dip, play some games. This will help you keep your weight low, and also will help your lungs recover faster and enhance your health condition.

When breaking the habit, it is very tempting to keep on snacking. So as not to gain weight, prepare for this snacking. Instead of snacking with junk foods and other high caloric foods, eat raw foods like vegetables and fresh fruits. These will satisfy your craving to have something to eat, and yet not give you the unnecessary calories you don't need.

To wrap everything up, it is really very difficult to keep your weight down when stopping smoking. But, this is not a hopeless case. With the right motivation, proper preparation, you can easily battle both the smoking habit and the sudden gain of weight.
