How to Wire Bass Speaker Cabinets in Series
- 1). Cut the speaker cable in half with wire cutters.
- 2). Solder the signal (hot) wire to the ground lug of one of the extra plugs. This is the lug attached to the plug's outer shell or casing.
- 3). Solder the signal wire to the other extra plug's signal lug--the plug's center.
- 4). Before making the last connection, ensure that the wires pass through the plugs' casings so that they can be screwed back onto the plugs. Connect the two remaining connector terminals by soldering them to the ends of the piece of 18-gauge speaker wire. This enables two, 4 ohm cabinets to operate in series for an 8 ohm total load. This is easier on the amplifier than running near the recommended minimum load for any length of time.
- 5). Test the plug connections with a digital multimeter before turning on the power to the amplifier.
