Malaysian Hair Weaving Techniques

    Prepare Your Hair

    • Whenever you decide to weave your hair or add any form of extension, it is best to wash and condition your natural hair first. When washing your hair be sure to complete at least three cycles to ensure the removal of all residues. Never weave your hair the same day of receiving a chemical relaxer. Your hair will be more susceptible to breakage and damage. Chemical treatments leave the hair weak and fragile.

    Moisturize Your Scalp

    • Make sure that your scalp has received proper care. Scalp treatments such as hot oil treatments are important. An unhealthy scalp will not produce healthy hair and breakage is more likely to occur. Although the Malaysian technique does not place an exceeding amount of stress on the scalp, a healthy scalp will withstand the technique best.

    Malaysian Technique

    • Start by sectioning the hair as if you were going to start box braids. The part in your hair should resemble a small box. Take an equally sized piece of hair and combine it with your natural hair using a Malaysian strand. If you do not have access to a Malaysian strand feel free to use a rubber band, which is the same color as your hair. Continue this pattern in small sections throughout your entire head until you have the desired amount of extensions and fullness.

    Styling Your Malaysian Weave

    • Styling is made easy with the Malaysian weaving method. You can style your hair without the worry of revealing any unsightly tracks or clumps of glue. Start out with a ponytail and end with an up-do. The choice is entirely up to you.
