To lose 1 pound every week week, this individual must shed 3,500 from his weekly diet, bringing it down to 10,360 per week, or 1,480 per day.

By cutting 500 off daily calorie intake, this person will lose 1 pound a week.

Health experts recommend you do not consume less than 1,200 calories a day, as this sends your system into starvation mode, meaning you gain MORE weight, with the body responding to the deficiency by creating a caloric reserve, which builds up your weight again! So please avoid going below 1200. I cannot stress this highly enough.

Finally...

Once you've reached your desired weight, recalculate your caloric intake using the above formulae so you know exactly how many calories you need to maintain your new weight.
