How to Get Two Computers on the Internet Using the Same Phone Line
- 1). Connect the telephone line to the modem provided to you by your Internet Service Provider. Purchase a router from your local electronics store or a reputable online business. (See Resources.) Use an Ethernet cable to connect the modem to the router. Connect each computer to the router by using an Ethernet cable.
- 2). Turn on your computer. Place the installation disc for the router into your CD drive. Follow the step-by-step instructions to install the software for the router. Plug in the router and modem to an electrical outlet. Watch for lights to blink on the devices to show they are connected properly.
- 3). Set up your network connection. Go to the "Start" menu on your computer and click "Networks." Click "Network and Sharing Center" and double-click on "Set up a connection or network." Choose a connection option and click "Next." Click "OK" to finish and select your "Network," and click "Connect." Select "ON" in all the "Sharing and Discovery" tabs to allow other computers to access the network.
