    • 1). Use your seam ripper to take apart the pajama pants that you are going to use for your pattern. Remove the seams from the sides of the legs as well as on the ankle and waist bands. You will end up with two pieces of material.

    • 2). Lay the pajama pieces on brown craft paper and trace the pattern onto the paper. Once you have traced the pattern, cut the paper so you have two pieces of a paper pattern with which to work.

    • 3). Lay the paper pattern pieces on top of your fabric and use your stick pins to pin the pattern to the fabric. Once you've secured the paper, use your scissors to cut the fabric into two pieces that are identical in size and shape to your original pajama pants. Remove the paper and pins from the fabric and put aside to reuse on future pajama projects.

    • 4). Pin your two pieces of fabric together inside out. Sew the seams on the sides of your fabric pieces to create the legs of the pants. Sew the inner edges of the fabric together to create your inseam.

    • 5). Create a hem at the ankle of the pajama pants and prepare to sew. Measure the hem to make sure it's the same length on both sides.

    • 6). Cut two small slits in the center of the top of the waistband, about 1 inch from the top and 1 inch apart. These will be the holes through which your drawstring comes out of the waistband. Lay the extra long shoestring on top of the fabric, and fold the material over it, ensuring that the ends of the strings hang through the two holes. Carefully sew your waistband hem, keeping the string inside. Once sewn, turn the pants right side out and wear.
