How to Make Eye Shadow
- 1). Decide on what color base you want for your eye-shadow. A blue base can be warmed up with the addition of yellow or cooled down with red.
- 2). Add your pigments to your bowl. Micas will make a shimmery eye-shadow while oxides will provide a matte look. Experiment with a mixture of colors, micas and oxides to get your desired shade. Mix well after the addition of each color to prevent streaks in your eye-shadow.
- 3). Add one of your fillers to make the color less intense. Kaolin clay will lighten the color and give the eye-shadow more staying powder. Boron nitride will retain the shimmer but make the color lighter. Rice powder will make your eye-shadow sheer.
- 4). Transfer your finished color to a container with a sifter lid. Close tightly and store in a cool, dry place. Without rice powder, your eye-shadows have an indefinite shelf life. If you add rice powder, your eye-shadow should be tossed after 6 months.
