How to Prevent Hair Loss in Young Men
- 1). Treat your hair gently. Don't brush or comb it too hard, don't scrub your scalp too hard in the shower and don't use excessively hot water. Blot your hair dry with a towel rather than rubbing vigorously.
- 2). Eat a diet high in protein, which is especially important if you're vegan or vegetarian. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend 56 grams of protein a day for men aged 19 to 70. Sources of protein include lean meats, dairy products, tofu, beans and nuts.
- 3). Include enough iron in your diet. According to the CDC, males 18 to 50 years old need 8 mg per day.
- 4). Wear your hair in a non-binding hairstyle. Certain styles, like braids and dreadlocks, place undue pressure on your hair. If you like to wear your hair in braids, give it a break now and then and allow your scalp and hair to recover.
- 5). Make an appointment with a dermatologist or general physician. Your doctor can assess your testosterone level, which may play a part in hair loss, and prescribe medication that can help you keep your hair.
