Mower Deck Belt Problems
- 1). Inspect your mower manual for the specific way to remove the mower deck from under your lawn tractor. Contact the mower's manufacturer for information on how to obtain a manual if yours is missing.
- 2). Remove most decks by rolling the lawn mower to a flat surface and engaging the parking brake. Place a piece of wood behind the back tires to prevent it from rolling, then disconnect the spark plug from the engine to keep the mower from starting.
- 3). Place wood blocks under the deck and lower it onto the blocks. This relieves tension from the holding springs.
- 4). Remove the pins from the linkages that raise and lower the deck, then remove all the linkages.
- 5). Remove the drive belt by pulling it away from the pulleys at the front of the machine, and from the deck. This releases the deck from the mower.
- 6). Inspect the mower drive belt for chips in the plastic or hard sections. Use the model number on the belt to order a new one and replace it if necessary.
- 7). Remove the deck from the riding mower and blow off any debris using compressed air. Inspect the belts for damage.
- 8). Inspect the layout of the belts and remove defective ones if necessary. Attach the new belt in the same way the old one was laid out.
