How to Cut Indie Bangs
- 1). Wash your hair and towel dry it. It should be very damp but not dripping wet. Comb your hair so there are no tangles. Then section your hair by tracing a part from ear to ear, over the top of your head. Make sure the part creates a clean line. Pull the front section forward and comb out the tangles again. Gather the rest of your hair at the back of your neck and secure it with a ponytail holder.
- 2). Pull the sections of hair close to your temples down and secure them with the back section of your hair, making sure you leave ample amounts of hair to cut for your bangs: Indie bangs are very full. Define the front section to ensure you are happy with the line your bangs will create once you are finished.
- 3). Grasp the front section of hair between your first and middle fingers and pull it out in front of your face at a 45-degree angle. Do not try to pull the entire section at once, simply pull from the front section as much as will fit comfortably between your fingers. Make sure the hair has been combed through. With the scissors in your other hand, cut upward, with a slight angle along the bottom of this section. Continue working on this section until you reach the level you would like your bangs to sit. This cutting technique ensures your bangs are not simply straight across your forehead. They should look slightly messy when you are through.
- 4). Grasp the side sections, and, using the same cutting technique, cut them at a gentle, sloping angle that graduates from the bangs down to your normal hair length. This creates a softer Indie look.
- 5). Dry your hair with a hairdryer to see how your bangs look when they are dry. Brush your bangs out and spritz them with some volumizing hairspray. Shake your head to create a slightly tousled look. You have just created your own Indie bangs.
