Much like a manhole, it's sometimes easy to fall in love but hard and messy to fall out of it.
You might even feel like you'd rather fall into an open sewage port than to deal with this heartbreak any longer.
You know you're hurting, but the real question is why do you still love your ex.
Step 1: It Means You Loved Them In The First Place: Your friends might be saying that it's time to stop moping and get over your flame already but if you're still hurting, it means there was something special there.
This won't make you feel any better but it actually is a good thing and the sooner you can embrace it, the better you'll react.
Step 2: Because They're Worth It: Maybe you did have the one, but maybe also your craving to find the one was more powerful than your ex's toxic attitude.
We tend to only think about the good times when somebody breaks up with us but in the meantime they're focusing on only the bad times, which makes the gap hard to narrow.
Step 3: It's A New Feeling: I hate to break it to you but that quivering in your stomach might just be loneliness and not love at all.
You've got to remember that you're a wolf out in the wild now, free from your cage.
Take some time to adapt to your new surroundings and start hanging out with the wolf pack more.
Step 4: Is This Love?: After you finish reading this, grab a piece of paper and write down 'Why Do I Still Love My Ex' at the top.
See how long it takes you to fill up that paper.
You'll either find out that you need a second piece or that you're writing suddenly gets bigger as you go from thing 4 to anything that could pass as 5.
Step 5: It Too Shall Pass: It's human nature and it's sad but true but your feelings for your ex will pass.
That's not what any lover scorned wants to hear but it's time-tested.
You'll always have a place in your heart for your ex but you'll also always remember your 3rd grade English teacher, I just hope they aren't your ex too.
Step 6: Do They Love You: Before you can really analyze why you still love your ex, find out what's their situation? Are they spiteful and evil towards you or are they struggling with the breakup also? Their reactions will tell you a lot about whether they're love-worthy or not.
Step 7: Save Your Love: Don't waste your days fretting over love gone wrong, instead save your heart for the next edition in your discography.
This doesn't mean you should hop on the next person you meet at the bus station, it just means that your bitter will get better.
