Beauty Tips for a Square Face
- For those with a square face, the main goal should be to elongate the face to reduce the appearance of the angled jaw line. Voluminous hairstyles or hair that is teased at the crown will help to create the appearance of a longer face. Thinned bangs will help to downplay the angular look. Straight, frumpy bangs and flat hair should be avoided, along with center parts. Haircuts that end at the jawline will cause the face to look even more angular, and therefore should be avoided.
- Soften the angles of the face by using a bronzer that is one shade darker than your natural skin tone. Highlight from the center of the forehead, down the bridge of the nose, the center of the chin and beneath the eyes. This will help to draw attention to the center of the face, as opposed to the strong jawline. Blush should be brushed onto the cheekbone in an upward angle toward the ears to "lift" the face and soften the jaw. Create the appearance of a pointed chin by using a bright-colored lip liner with a sharp shape, and fill in with a similar color of lipstick.
- To avoid enhancing the square shape of the jaw, choose rounded earrings, such as hoops or large circular or oval dangle earrings. Avoid studs that draw the attention to the sides of the face. When choosing necklaces, choose long chains in V-shapes to draw the attention down.
- Square or rectangular sunglasses will increase the appearance of the square face, so it's best to opt for curved shapes, such as circles or ovals. Eye wear should extend beyond the cheekbones to hide the width of the face. Cat-eye shaped eye wear will provide the face with definition and are a desirable choice.
