The Psychology of Being Overweight - Do You Recognise These?
There are 10 key psychological errors that overweight people use to stay overweight.
YES, that's right people use these to stay overweight! Very often people use these on a daily basis and don't even recognise that they are using them; it has become part of their lifestyle and routine.
They say that they want to lose weight but their mind is conspiring against them.
So let's get on with the 10 key psychological errors that people use to stay overweight - let's see how many you use and when you recognise them ask yourself - How can I change this for the positive and allow me to lose weight? Number One You kid yourself that a little 'cheat' won't hurt! How often do you pick up a candy bar or a packet of chips and tell yourself "Oh it's only once, it'll be OK!" - the trouble is this ends up being every day and you tend to 'forget' you did it yesterday! Number Two You eat things you know are not good for you but justify it by not telling anyone - or specifically someone close to you (Wife? Husband?) Do you have a snack when people are not around or sneak into another room to eat something but think it's OK because nobody knows! Number Three Somewhere inside do you think being overweight is healthy? I've heard this so many times from my coaching clients, they actually believe that being overweight is healthy and to lose weight would mean losing strength or something along those lines - do you do this? Number Four When eating out do you pick the second biggest thing on the menu and justify it because "at least it's not the biggest" Again many coaching clients tell me this "I went out to dinner last night and didn't have the biggest thing on the menu" when I ask what they did have it usually turns out it's the second biggest or the second highest in calories! Number Five You pick at food between meals believing yourself to be hungry If you have good enough meals with enough nutrition in them you should not need to eat between meals so stop kidding yourself that you do.
Is it possible you are dehydrated.
Number Six You believe that thin people have higher metabolism rates This is such a common myth that is not true.
Thin people have set their metabolism rates by eating what is right for them.
When you eat the right products with the right diet your metabolism will work just as well.
Number Seven You comfort eat and don't know where or when to stop and all of a sudden the whole pack of biscuits / sweets / ice cream etc has gone How often do you sit at night watching the TV and have a snack and at the end of the night you look down and think to yourself "where did all of that go?" as you stare at them empty packet.
You might even joke about it with friends the next day - just remember that they probably know the truth - that's the reason you stay overweight! Number Eight You think that losing weight is painful because you have to give up your favourite foods but don't think about the pain that diseases caused by being overweight can bring.
Do you know the true results of being overweight? Have you ever researched them? If you had you would not be overweight! Number Nine You attach pleasure to eating your favourite foods but don't think about the pleasure that would come when you lose weight and are fit and healthy Have you ever considered how amazing you would feel if you lost all the weight you want to and felt healthy and energetic? Why isn't that a strong enough pull for you? Number Ten You don't tell people you are trying to lose weight just in case you don't succeed By doing this you automatically set yourself up to fail, tell people and get their support as this makes it easier to achieve! So there you have it, how many of those do you recognise in yourself? Write them all down and decide what you are going to do to change it; if you do this you take a massive step towards losing the weight you want to.
