Hairstyles to Hide Flaws

    • Hair can be an enjoyable, versatile accessory, like sneakers, a nice jacket or piece of jewelry that dresses up an outfit or takes it from the boardroom to casual. For people who are self-conscious about their hair or faces, creating new hairstyles can be a nerve-wracking task. This doesn't have to be the case; many hairstyles actually work with problem features and can actually mask them, drawing attention elsewhere. With a few quick steps, fun, cool hairstyles can work for everyone.

    The Caesar

    • The Caesar hairstyle was reborn when popular actor George Clooney started sporting it on his television show, "ER." Suddenly, salons were receiving requests for "The Clooney," and the style was being spotted all around. Although fashionable, one of the reasons for the popularity of "The Caesar" is its ability to mask flaws in your hair. If you're experiencing age- or illness-related hair loss, this style is an excellent option. Because the hair is cut close to the head, thinning or patchy spots are much less visible (longer strands make missing areas a lot more easy to spot). The style is achieved by cutting hair a uniform length of 1 to 2 inches, then combing the bangs down over the forehead. Bangs are often cut in a severe line, leaving a rectangular block look. The style is also well-suited for on-the-go professionals: just wash and wear or add a little styling mousse if you'd like a shiny or spiky look. Another benefit of this look is that because there isn't a big cloud of hair surrounding the face, attention is drawn to the wearer's eyes, lips and other attractive features.

    Emo

    • Emo, or emotional, is a look made popular by musicians but enjoyed by everyone, from high schoolers to business professionals, because of its versatility. If you have a prominent forehead, this look can help because it hides most of that area; the hairstyle often features a large chunk of bangs pulled down over the eyes. This also helps people who feel sensitive about eyebrow scars, under-eye bags and even glasses. The style favors darker colored hair, so consider consulting with a salon professional to help you get the shiny black look of the emo style. The haircut is also low maintenance; so if you wake up in a rush, tousle your fingers through your hair and get going.

    The Bob

    • Many women keep their hairs' natural frizz at bay by using copious amounts of styling products, wearing hats in the humidity or carrying umbrellas. Frizzy hair just doesn't seem to be a popular state of hair; one way to tone it down and get it under control is with a bob hairstyle. The bob is a sleek cut, usually on medium-length hair, where the hair tapers down to chin-length. The frizz-combating powers of the style come from the shine serum used. After a wash, blow dry your hair as straight as possible, using a diffuser to cut down on as much frizz as possible (the more heat on the hair, the higher the tendency to frizz). When hair is dry and straight, smooth some serum or gel onto your hands and "clap" lengths of hair between your fingers from the root, dragging your hands down to the ends. Work your hands all around the length of your head until your bob is straight, shiny and frizz-free.
