How to Give a Buzz Cut to Child
- 1). Sit the child on the stool and drape a towel around his back to protect him from stray hair as you cut. Secure the towel with a clothespin at the front of the neck.
- 2). Prepare the electric clippers by selecting the desired attachment. Look for small labeling on the attachments that indicates the length of each. A standard buzz cut can range from 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch. You may wish to start with a longer attachment--you can always change to a shorter attachment and go back over the areas you already cut to make the hair a uniform length. Plug the clippers into an electrical socket.
- 3). Position the clippers so the top of the clippers where the attachment attaches is at the front top of the child's head. Rest the attachment gently on the child's scalp just before the hairline. Practice moving the clippers through the child's hair several times before you turn the clippers on to get a feel for how it cuts. Push the clippers gently but firmly through the child's hair so the attachment on the clippers always contacts the child's scalp. As you move the clippers along the child's head, the clippers will cut the hair.
- 4). Turn the clippers on and push the clippers straight back in a line along the top of the child's head until you reach the crown of the head. Lift the clippers, reposition it back in front of the hairline and cut another line on the child's scalp.
- 5). Continue cutting the hair on the top and sides of the head with the clippers, making as many passes as necessary through the hair to cut it evenly. Cut along the sides of the head around the ears as well.
- 6). Position the clippers at the nape of the neck and push the clippers up in a straight line toward the top of the head using the same technique as you used on the top of the head. Reposition the clippers back at the nape of the neck and cut the entire back of the head in the same way.
- 7). Go back over the entire head a final time with the clippers to make sure you did not miss any areas.
- 8). Trim any stray hairs around the ears and along the back of the neck to make the hairline neat.
- 9). Brush the child's head off with the clean towel to remove as much stray hair as possible to prevent itchiness. Remove the towel from around the child's neck and discard the removed hair.
