DIY Princess Dress
- 1). Use a plain dress in a pastel color as a base for the princess dress; it can be any length as it will be covered with a tulle skirt. Use a leotard as an alternative.
- 2). Make a tulle skirt to wear over the dress. Measure and sew a length of elastic 2 inches smaller than the child's waist. Cut strips of tulle 6 inches wide and twice the length that you want the finished skirt. Tie the lengths on to the elastic using slipknots and push the pieces close together to make a full skirt.
- 3). Tie a long length of wide ribbon around the waist as a sash and tie it in a large bow at the back. Secure it in place with safety pins to cover the elastic waistband.
- 4). Use fabric glue to add embellishments, such as fabric flowers, small bows, stick-on jewels and pom-poms, to the tulle skirt. Glue or sew lace or braid trim to the neckline and cuffs of the dress; fluffy, fake fur trim also looks soft and pretty.
- 5). Accessorize with a tiara or make a pointed princess hat to coordinate with the dress. Make a tall paper cone and cover it with pretty fabric, gluing it in place with fabric glue. Add a lace or braid trim at the edge. Attach long ribbons to hang from the point of the cone.
