1). Decorate the walls and ceilings with luxurious fabrics. Tulle, organza or silk fabrics can transform a plain space into a upscale, elegant-looking space.
2). Select a venue with crystal chandeliers. If the place does not have chandeliers, have them brought in and hung temporarily from the ceiling.
3). Match the table dining ware to the color scheme of the event. If the event is all black and white, for example, decorate with black table linens, white china plates and white cloth napkins with black napkin rings.
4). Create a dramatic centerpiece for each table. Use tall vases with large floral bouquets on top to create an impressive centerpiece. Another idea is to include long tree branches in the vases and hang crystals and votive candles from them.
5). Dim the lights and place tall candelabras throughout the room. You can also use colored lighting on the walls for more effect.
