DIY Felt Napkin Ring
- 1). Cut a large four-leaf daisy-like shape from a dark green felt square about 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Cut a slit in the center 1 inch long.
- 2). Cut a 2-inch diameter daisy-like shape from another color felt square. Cut a 1-inch slit in the center.
- 3). Cut a bone shape from a different color felt square. Make it 8 inches long and 1 inch wide. On the ends, cut two lobes for the bone shape that measure 1 1/2 inches across.
- 4). Hold the green daisy shape in one hand and insert bone-shaped end into the slit from the back so the bone shape comes through and is on top. Do the same with the other daisy shape so it lies on top of the green shape with the bone coming through.
- 5). Bend the bone shape around and insert the other side just as before. A loop will be under the newly created flower in which a napkin is placed.
- 1). Cut four 2-by-8 inch strips of felt from one color and four from another color. Use two strips per napkin ring, one of each color.
- 2). Place on strip on top of the other, pin together, and sew together with a blanket stitch using two strands of embroidery thread.
- 3). Cut several leaf shapes from both light and dark green felt and set aside.
- 4). Draw a curvy line with tailor’s chalk on the outside of the napkin ring going from one end to the other. This is the stem.
- 5). Pin the leaves on the stem in whatever position desired.
- 6). Thread an embroidery needle with three strands of embroidery thread. Knot one end and ring the needle from back to front. Make a running stitch over the chalk line, catching the leaves in it as stitches proceed to the other end. Make a knot on the wrong side, cut the thread, and brush off the chalk mark.
- 7). Sew a button at one end of the stem 1/2 inch from the edge so it looks like the head of a flower. Cut a slit slightly smaller than the button at the bottom, 1/2 inch from the edge.
- 8). Pull the button through the button hole so the strip forms a loop with the embroidery outside. Insert a napkin.
