LDS Baptism Homemade Gifts
- This classic idea is a fun way to help newly baptized kids (or even adults) remember morning and evening prayers. A prayer rock is placed on the pillow in the morning so that when the person goes to bed, it is difficult to lay down her head because of the rock on the pillow, thus reminding her to say her prayers before going to sleep. After saying the evening prayer, the rock is then placed on the floor so when the person gets up the next morning, stepping on the rock will remind him or her to say a morning prayer.
Just about any rock can be used as a prayer rock, although a rounder, smoother rock is better to help avoid injuries from sharp edges. Simply decorate the rock using craft paints, and perhaps personalize it with the person's name or prayer-centered message (something like, "John--Remember to Pray Night and Day"). - LDSLiving.com features a craft idea that will help point the hearts of new members towards the temple. First, find photographs of a temple you would like to replicate in small model fashion. Next, use graph paper to plan the "blueprints" of how you would like to build a sugar cube temple. This is much easier if you treat each square on the graph paper as if it were a single sugar cube. Then, use hot glue (or icing if you want the temple to be edible) to bond each cube together as you build up the walls of your small sweet structure. When the building is finished, you can even craft a mini Moroni out of gold foil (available at most craft stores) to top the spire.
- Candy bar wrappers can be a creative way to give a sweet treat to a newly baptized church member. Take the paper wrapper portion of a Hershey's or other candy bar off the bar and measure its dimensions. These can be used to create a personalized wrapper on the computer or by hand. When the new wrapper is created, tape it over the bar where the original one was. There are a few places online to find premade candy bar wrappers that are ready for printing. See the "Resources" section below to find a useful link to SugarDoodle.net, where a few pre-made candy bar wrappers can be accessed for free.
- Also featured on SugarDoodle.net are a variety of other great baptism ideas, from an "Eight is Great" cookie bouquet to home-decorated book filled with testimonies of friends and family members. The possibilities are endless with a little inspiration and creativity.
