How to Measure Neck Dimensions on a Guitar
- 1). Place the guitar on a flat surface, such as a counter or table, with the strings facing the ceiling. Slide a 1/2-inch wood block under the top of the guitar’s body.
- 2). Measure the distance from the table up to the back of the guitar’s neck near the 12th fret. Measure the distance from the table up to the bottom of the head stock.
- 3). Place the tape measure at the top of the guitar’s body and run it up to the bottom of the head stock. This will give you the measurement for the neck’s length.
- 4). Run the tape measure across the neck near the head stock for the width. Measure the thickness of the guitar’s neck at the 12th fret.
- 5). Measure the radius using a radius gauge to calculate the curvature of the fret board.
