- Holiday wreaths are hallmarks of Christmas decorations. Collect pine cones and dip them in cinnamon oil to give your guests a spicy, warm smell. Use gold or silver glitter spray paint and lightly spray the pine cones to add color and draw the eye. Hot glue the cones together on a basic wire frame. Using red and green plaid ribbon, tie a bow and glue it on the pine cones to complete the wreath.
- If you have young children, consider a decoration to count down the days until Christmas. Cut a large Christmas tree out of green felt. Sew the tree on a larger sheet of red felt. Attach a Dow stick to the top of the red felt and twist red, green and white strings to the Dow to form a hanging device. On the Christmas tree, attach 25 small Velcro squares. Cut circles for ornaments out of colored felt pieces and attach scenes of the Christmas story on each. Stick the opposing piece of Velcro on the back of the ornament and add one each day leading to Christmas. Use the picture to illustrate a different part of the Christmas story each day.
- Make homemade ornaments to add country flair to your tree. Create a snowman ornament out of a light bulb. Spray a light bulb with white glitter spray paint. Using wire, create a hook and hanging device and hot glue it to the end of the light bulb that fits into a socket. This will be the head of the snowman. Using a small piece of fabric, cut and glue a scarf to fit around its neck. Paint or use small items to create a face and buttons.
- Glass jars are items that denote country taste. Find a hot drink recipe such as Russian tea or hot chocolate. Mix the ingredients in a large bowl and then pour them into the glass jars. On the flat part of the lid, glue a thin piece of holiday fabric and then screw the lid on the jar. Set these around your kitchen for your family to use during the season and give them as festive gifts to your friends for the holidays. You can also fill the jars with candy or grain.
