The model you decide upon for your membership site is of the utmost importance and the one you choose depends upon your objectives. There are basically two types of membership sites. There are free sites and there are paid for sites. The two types of membership sites have one thing is common. Their memberships are made up of people who share a common need or have a common interest.

There are two main models of membership websites. The fixed-term ones and unlimited content ones.

Research has shown the average member in a traditional membership site only stays for around 3-4 months, then they disappear, which means the owner has to constantly try and find new members. However, with a fixed-term membership model the members rarely cancel as they have an end goal in mind and are much keener to learn in a step-by-step or module-to-module format to eventually get to the end of the road and achieve their end result.

Fixed-term membership (easiest way)

Fixed term membership site is also called Micro-Continuity membership or fixed continuity program. Fixed term basically means that the length of membership is fixed. These are memberships site is not a continued one. Memberships is open usually for a period of one month or one week. After the definite period the membership will expires.

So before someone signs up for the membership, they know that it will end after a certain period of time. The best example of Micro-Continuity model is perfect for a mini-course. This course is a short fixed-term membership program with a monthly payment.

When you create a fixed-term membership site it's a lot easier to divide your content into modules and deliver one each week which specifically solves a problem.

The easiest way to create residual wealth is to start a "fixed-term membership" Site. A "fixed-term membership site" consists of weekly content shared via autoresponder to paid members for a specified period of time. It's like with magazines. You let your customers subscribe for a period of time, but then they must renew.

This type of membership is great if you want to set it up, fill in all the content and then leave it as it doesn't require too much effort to maintain the site.

Write one 2-3 page article lesson every week. Load this article to an autoresponder for subscribers to access. Sell access to the series, which would last 3 - 6 - 9 or 12 months. It's that simple.

These models have several advantages, one of which, the business will have the ability to accurately forecast the lifetime value of each customer.

The main disadvantage is advertising efforts constantly have to bring in new entrants in order to replace ones whose memberships expired. For this reason, it is highly recommended that the content, product, or service evolve or have more than one phase to allow the customer a €renewal option€ at the end of the original term.

Unlimited-content membership

The unlimited content model is best used when there's an infinite need for content about a topic. In these cases, you really have to keep providing content on a regular basis but still you can even automate this.

For example, you can spend one month creating content and then have it automatically delivered to your members for the next 6 months.

Nano membership sites

Another membership model is nano membership sites, where you charge a very low monthly fee but there is no end date to the membership. Within this model you could have discounts to your main products and services available only to paying members.
