How to Apply for a UK Bank Account
- 1). Choose a bank. There are many to choose from. Even if you plan to do all of your banking online, it's a good idea to pick one that has a branch in your town. You may have to go in one day.
- 2). Choose the type of account you want. There are many different types of current (checking) accounts, as well as savings accounts. Some are offered exclusively to customers with high incomes.
- 3). Go into the bank and ask to open the account.
- 4). Provide the necessary documentation, including some form of ID (i.e. a passport or a driver's license) and a proof of address (i.e. a rental agreement or a utility bill). If you're opening a special type of account, such as a student account, you will need to prove your status. For premium accounts, you may have to show a payslip.
- 5). Deposit money into the account. Not all banks require this, but many do.
