You want to get away, but money is tight and you just can't afford that Six Flags vacation this year.
Folks looking for great summer deals can't do any better than exploring opportunities in the great outdoors tent camping.
We started camping as a family when our son, Nathan was just a baby.
Our first camping trip was at our land up north.
We play together, sleep together, and are with each other from sunup to sundown.
My son gets to be in a natural environment that he thrives in.
We love the time together without the normal distraction of home.
No TV, no chores - just being together as a family.
According to the National Wildlife Federation Web site, the number of campers has steadily grown over the years from people who do tent camping in their backyards to those who set up in their favorite national or state park.
Wisconsin State Parks are by far the best places for tent camping.
They are cheap to tent camping, and amazingly beautiful.
There are no outside distractions so we are able to engage in great conversations, play cards, get dirty with the kids, canoe and really enjoy each other's company pure and simple.
Nicolet National Forest is an excellent place for people to go.
There are woods where people can hike around if the sun is shining and it's really hot.
Map out your camping trip- have your itinerary all lined out.
Then you won't waste gas driving around lost, and you can get the best motel deals online before you get there.
Tent Camping? There are so many RV parks in beautiful places.
If you can talk your family into really "roughing" it, tent camping is so much fun when you're a kid- they'll always remember what fun the trip was.
 Take a Cooler- pack your own snacks and drinks to avoid buying them at a much higher price on the go.
Be careful if you're taking perishable food items, though- keep them cold! Make sure the items you need to heat up get thoroughly warmed through.
You'd hate to have a very unpleasant food poisoning incident on the trip.
Then the kids would remember the tent camping trip forever but for a very different reason.
