Mumbai is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra and is tagged as the most populous city in India and the fourth most populous city in the world. Mumbai boasts of much superiority like being considered the financial capital of the country, the highest GDP in Asia, the Gateway of India, the Alpha World city, the richest city in India, etc. India is considered a country of diverse religion and cultures and Mumbai rightly depicts €Unity in Diversity'. Apparently, the name Mumbai was derived from the Mumbadevi, the Hindu Goddess. Previously known as Bombay, Mumbai lies on the spectacular Konkon coast. Mumbai is a major hub for commercial, industrial and financial activities that contributes to almost 70% of the country's revenue. This is also one of the major seaports in the country.
Mumbai is also known as Bollywood due to a huge number of movies being churned out of this city every year that even goes international. The buildings and mansions in Mumbai are influenced by ancient styles and designs as well as the old Gothic style. It is also a major hub for creative art and culture ranging from theatres, literacy, arts and crafts, documentary, entertainment, paintings, etc. this rich talent is displayed in several museums, art galleries and libraries of the country.

Mumbai was ruled by the Maurya dynasty beginning from the 3rd century when King Ashoka was the ruler. It was later ruled by the kings of the Silhara Empire till the 13th century. In 1534 AD, the Portuguese invaded the land and was under its rule.
Being bounded by the mighty Arabian Sea, Mumbai is famous for its magnificent beaches with never dying spirit unlike any other metropolis. People come to these beaches to relax their minds, a fun picnic, and sun bathe, to take a break from the hustle bustle of the city life. Some beautiful beaches of Mumbai are Marine Drive, Chowpatty beach and Juhu beach.
