Facts to Know Before Buying DVDR
- Popularity of brand is not the guarantee of good performance. The performance depends upon various factors related with compatibility, software, system and method. Some new versions also deliver same performance. So, why do you pay more for established brands, if you are satisfied with new and cheap brand? Taiyo Yuden, Mitsubishi, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Memorex, Ritek and Ricoh etc are well known brands while Pioneer and MBI ere lesser known brands.
- Surrounding environment and using practices affect the performance of DVDR considerably. For example: Some working environments have more moisture content, sometimes discs are exposed to excessive temperature or sunlight, sometime we store the discs improperly that too for long periods or some users mark the discs with sharp tip pens etc. We should check the resistant specifications of selected DVD carefully. Nowadays, moisture proof, scratch resistant and pre-labeled discs are also available; and, cost difference is also not too much.
- DVDs are available in various storing capacity. Low capacity DVD is low priced and high capacity DVD is more priced. Don't pay more unnecessarily for extra space.
- Before picking up the DVD in the store, think about the requirements of your disc burner and player. Check the compatibility especially the speed. High speed discs are costly than low speed discs, so don't pay extra here too. Good media have 95%-99% success rate while cheaper media have 0%-40% success rate. Good quality discs ensure more shelf life and more repeated burns (if it is RW type).
- Sometime we get the error because of the fault in the system, method or software and blame comes to the brand. To avoid such condition, check disc balance, surface, burning speed, player compatibility, burning software and paying software etc.
