How to Build a Soaking Tub
- 1). Place the stock tank on a flat, stable surface, such as a level area of ground or a concrete slab. The location should be within hose reach of an outdoor water supply.
- 2). Position the tub heater where you want it. Note the manufacturer's recommended distance between the heater and the tank.
- 3). Drill two 1 1/4-inch holes through the side of the tank closest to the water heater. The upper hole (for the hot water inlet) should be directly above the lower hole (for the cold water outlet), spaced as recommended by the heater manufacturer.
- 4). Install the upper and lower water feed pipes through the holes in the tank with the port hardware supplied by the manufacturer. This usually involves threading each pipe through an interior port cover, which is caulked to the inside of the tank.
- 5). Install the upper pipe to the hot water outlet on the heater, and the lower pipe to the cold water inlet on the heater, as directed by the heater manufacturer.
- 6). Install the stove pipe on the heater's chimney flange, to a height required by your local building code. Top the stove pipe with a chimney cover.
- 7). Fill the tank with water and start a wood fire in the heater. As the heater warms up, it will draw cold water in through the lower pipe, heat it, and push it back into the tank. Periodically check the water temperature with a thermometer to see if it is at the desired warmth. Then close down the draft on the water heater and step into the tub.
