How to Calculate Gallons of Water in an Oval Pool
- 1). Measure the length of the pool at its longest point.
- 2). Measure the width of the pool at its widest point.
- 3). Determine the average depth of the pool by adding the depth of the shallow end to the depth of the deep end and dividing by 2. For example, if the pool starts at 4 feet deep and gradually gets deeper until it gets to 10 feet, the average depth would be 7 feet.
- 4). Multiple the length by the width by the average depth by 5.9 to determine the number of gallons you need to fill your pool. For example, if your pool measures 20 by 12 feet and averages 6 feet deep you would need 8,496 gallons to fill it.
