Today's article is about the dangerous effects of alcohol.
Alchol consuming has many side effects.
Obvious ones are brain and liver damage..
The effects of alcohol on the brain are extremely obvious, especially when one is under the influence.
You may notice slurred speech, impaired eyesight, bad short-term memory, and loss of motor skills.
Long-term, heavy drinking also has many harmful effects.
These can be liver failure, brain loss, or even death.
An immediate dangerous side-effect of alcohol consuming is blacking out.
Blacking out, or "passing out," is much more dangerous then many think.
Usually, when someone passes out, they are laughed at.
How many times have you heard someone talking about not remembering last night because they passed out? It's very common, and it comes from consuming too much alcohol in too short of a time.
People go to a party, consume alcohol, and next thing they know, are waking up somewhere with no recollection of the nights events.
What they do remember is not good.
Unprotected sex, vandalism, or drunk driving are some of the activities people under the influence participate in.
This is major evidence that alcohol messes with your brain.
Also, recent studies have shown that women are at an even larger risk of blacking out then men.
Consequence of Alcohol: Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrom is a consequence of long-term alcohol-consumption.
Wernicke-korsakoff syndrome occurs when the body does not have enough Vitamin B1.
This vitamin is essential, and is found in many first-world diets.
Thankfully, because of this, the majority of first-world citizens never get diagnosed with this disease.
Alcoholics are the exception.
Eighty percent of alcoholics are diagnosed with Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome.
Symptoms of this disease are paralysis of nerves in the eye, mental confusion, and loss of muscle coordination.
Many patients diagnosed with this have trouble finding their way out of a room, or have difficulty even moving.
Possibly the largest symptom of this disease is short-term memory loss.
People with this disease will have a conversation, then an hour later, have no recollection of the conversation.
Consequence of Alchohol: Liver Disease Liver Disease is the most common disease associated with alcohol abuse.
This is the most obvious of the consequence of long-term alcohol consumption.
The liver makes alcohol non-toxic while it is in your blood.
With small amounts of alcohol, the liver is able to recover.
However, after a lifetime of alcohol abuse, the liver swells and becomes severely damaged.
Usually, in these cases, complex surgery is needed to correct the problem.
In some cases, the patient will die, or be on dialysis for an extended period of time, until a liver can be transplanted.
In summary, alcohol can have very devastating side-effects -- especially to long-term abusers.
Liver damage, memory loss, brain damage, and coordination loss are all a result of alcohol abuse.
I hope you learned something about alcohol from this article.
