Things to Know Before You Golf
Tee Times
Each time you go to play golf, you will want to schedule a tee time. This is the time that you will actually start hitting the ball, not the time you should arrive. It is best to get to the course about 30 minutes before your tee time to check in and get a cart if you want one. Most tee times are made on the phone, while others can be made online. Check the location's website such as Riverview Golf Course, or the specific one you will be playing, to make sure the best way to contact them.
Attire
A dress code may be in force at the golf course you are planning to play at. You will want to check to make sure you are dressed appropriately. Typically collared shirts, and khaki pants for men, and pants or a skort for women will be fine. Generally, jeans or athletic gear are not appropriate. If you are wearing golf shoes you will want to make sure that you have soft cleats, not metal ones.
Equipment
It is interesting to know that golf etiquette allows no more than 14 clubs in your golf bag. You can have fewer but shouldn't have more. Primary clubs are a driver, a putter, a sand wedge, a 6-iron, and an 8-iron. You will also want to have extra balls and tees with you.
Golf Carts
You want to make sure that you determine where you can drive your golf cart on each course. There are often cart paths marked or golf cart rules could be printed on your scorecard. The rules may be posted by the first hole as well. You will want to make sure you know where you can go before you take off.
Golf Bag Drop
Most courses will have an area designated as a bag drop. You can use this spot when you first get to the course and leave your golf bag while you are parking. You can also drop your bag when you are going into the clubhouse before or after you play.
Tipping
Tipping varies by golf course. Some discourage it while others allow it. You will want to verify ahead of time what the rules are at the course you are playing. If tipping is allowed, you would consider tipping those running the bag drops, cart returns, and those serving food and beverages.
