Lose a Little, Gain a Lot

Dieters take heart.
Dieting doesn't always have to mean extreme dieting.
You don't have to starve yourself and be miserable in order to lose weight.
You don't have to put yourself on ridiculous diets (like eating only bananas and milk for a week) that you will never be able to stick to.
You don't have to listen to all the diet gurus and the latest and greatest diet trends.
And you don't have to spend a fortune for each new diet gimmick that comes along.
The best way to diet is to be sensible about it.
Take a look at what you are already eating and tone it down.
Trim off the garbage that you are eating now and stick to the healthy part.
Lose the chips and dip you eat every evening and replace them with carrots (still crunchy) and salad dressing for dip (still tasty).
Trim the fat and skin from chicken before you eat it.
Have only one potato instead of two (and use salt and pepper for seasoning it instead of butter).
In other words, make small changes in your diet and the way that you eat now.
You will lose weight.
It may be a slower way to lose weight, but it is definitely less painful.
Making small changes in your eating habits is a healthier way to lose weight than the crash dieting that many diets call for.
It is much easier on your body to accept small changes at a time, than a drastic change in what it is used to processing.
You will tend to have fewer body discomforts (like bloating or excessive gas) than by totally switching the foods you eat.
Also your body needs foods from all the food groups in order to keep healthy.
If you eliminate one food group (as is called for on a no carbohydrate diet) you body is not really receiving everything it needs to maintain good health.
Many people believe that they can stick to a diet like that for a little while and then begin eating regularly when the weight has been lost.
Ultimately, though, what happens is that they cannot seem to stick to that diet for very long because their bodies crave what it lacks, so initially they do not fulfill their dieting goals.
Then they tend to overeat those forbidden foods and gain back every pound they lost, and probably then some.
Losing weight slowly, a little at a time, is the best way to lose weight and keep it off.
By cutting down (not out) on food portions and making small changes in your diet your body can accept the changes gradually.
You also make that a new habit in the way you eat and you are more likely to continue that way of eating.
And you don't have to feel deprived, as you do on many restrictive diets.
You can still eat those 'bad' foods sometimes and live a normal life.
Cutting back and losing weight slowly eventually becomes a lifestyle change.
You will find that it is easier to lose weight when you cut back instead of out because you are still living a normal life.
You only need to make small changes in your eating in order to see the results.
Don't be discouraged by small weight losses.
Celebrate them because when you lose a little, you gain a lot.
