Every year a handset is released that exceeds all expectations.
The new Apple iPhone 4 is that phone.
Not only does the superb functionality remain, but some excellent new features coupled with a new design that oozes styles contribute toward making this a truly great phone.
One of the most pleasing aspects of the iPhone 4 is its excellent quality display.
A huge step up in quality has been achieved from the previous models that eclipses all other devices currently available.
Thanks to the screen being able to show more pixels than the human eye can actually recognise, Apple have affectionately named the screen the "Retina" display.
The 326 pixels that it fits into a square inch is truly groundbreaking, and coupled with the great 960 x 640 the results are superb.
Given that the majority of mobile phone display use is to view text in one form or another, when zoomed in letters look defined with perfect edges, unlike on lower resolution screens where the pixels can start to show.
A massive 78% of the pixels displayed on the iPad are squeezed into the iPhones 4's much smaller 3.
5" screen.
The glass that this technology is fitted behind is extraordinary in its own right.
The glass undergoes a chemical process that toughens it, not only improving its long term durability but reportedly making it 30 times stronger than the plastic found on many handsets.
Apple have also made the wise decision to fit the glass on the back of the chassis as well, not only giving it a neat and uniform look but further increasing durability.
Anybody who has seen any of the media advertisements for the iPhone 4 will have undoubtedly seen the attention focused on the new "FaceTime" feature.
This is Apples attempt to reintroduce video calling to the masses, and very impressive it is too.
Utilising the users broadband connection, this gives a much better picture and sound quality than previous methods which relied upon cellular networks.
"FaceTime" however does not only require both users to have a WiFi connection but also an iPhone 4 as well, however given the effectiveness of this new system it is only a matter of time until it is adopted by other manufacturers.
To facilitate this feature, Apple have added a secondary front facing camera to the phone.
"FaceTime" and the high quality screen further enhance the iPhones already excellent reputation, making it a viable and attractive option to anyone upgrading or simply treating themselves.
