How to Be a Positive Part of Our Planet"s Future

I think one of the best things to come about in the last few years has been the green movement.
It used to be that only a certain segment of the population was deemed to be concerned about the environment to the point where we had nicknames for these groups such as "granolas" or "tree-huggers.
" Well, that's all changed now as the green movement has become the "hip" thing to do.
Really, I don't care whether or not it's hip.
I'm just thankful that for whatever reason, people have begun to realize that in order to secure our planet's future, it's imperative that we all adopt a greener lifestyle.
The best part of all is that because it's become desirable in the marketing world to be able to offer up green alternatives, being green has never been easier!  It used to be a more difficult adjustment, and we still need to be leery of supposed green companies that aren't really green at all.
The simplest solutions, however, are probably also the clearest and most honest of all.
  For example: 1.
  Reusable shopping bags:
  Very simple.
Buy reusable bags once and continue to use them.
If everybody did this, we'd eliminate a huge problem to the tune of 500 billion LESS plastic bags being manufactured and thrown away (many of which end up in the ocean destroying the marine ecosystem and killing whales and turtles) AND we eliminate nearly 14 million trees being chopped down to produce paper bags.
2.
  Walking, Bicycling & Carpooling:
It might not always be convenient, but there's really no arguing that doing any of the three saves loads of nonrenewable energy as well as pollution from car exhaust.
Lobby for bike trails in your community.
Start a trend by walking your kids to school if you're within a reasonable distance.
You won't believe the amount of people in your neighborhood that will observe this and soon, you'll have a whole community greeting each other in the morning as they save the planet and walk the kids to school.
3.
  Lighting:
Change out your incandescent light bulbs with CFLs (compact fluorescent lights).
The savings in electric bills is fantastic and the environmental savings is enormous.
If every household changed just three of their 60-watt incandescent light bulbs with CFLs, the savings in pollution would be equivalent to taking 3.
5 million cars off the roads annually.
