- Pick a photograph of you and your loved one on a romantic occasion and create a hand decorated frame to display it in. If your loved one has a favorite flower, pick or buy these. Put each flower between two pieces of absorbent paper, such as paper towels, and press them between the pages of a heavy book. Leave to dry for a few days then glue the flowers onto a plain wooden frame.
- Create a scrapbook recording the most romantic moments you have shared over the past year. Gather photos, movie, theater and concert tickets of events you have attended and stick them in the scrapbook. Write in your own memories of any particularly romantic moments and how much they meant to you. Add details of any romantic meals you have shared or walks you have taken. If a particular song has come to have special meaning for you, copy out its lyrics.
- Chocolate is always a romantic favorite, but make your loved one a box of chocolate treats that contains far more interesting things than just candies. Include best quality hot chocolate mix, fine chocolate truffles, chocolate-flavored liqueurs and luxury chocolate spread. Visit delicatessens to seek out more unusual chocolate-flavored treats, such as chocolate-flavored pasta or chocolate-flavored chips. Place them all in a pretty box and tie up with a ribbon.
- Make a gift basket containing all the ingredients for your loved one's favorite meal along with a handmade card inviting him to a three-course (or more if you're ambitious) meal to be cooked by you. Write out the menu by hand in the manner of a top restaurant. Include a bottle of wine in the basket if appropriate, as well as candles for a romantic place setting.
