How to Dye Test for Pool Leaks
- 1). Equip yourself with swim fins, a diver's mask and diver's weight belt. Get into the pool with an underwater marking pen.
- 2). Swim along the bottom of the pool and squeeze the dye around areas that look as though they may be compromised. These include areas with hairline cracks and holes. Hold the tip of the dye bottle as close to the surface of the pool as possible to ensure the dye comes into contact with the surface.
- 3). Mark an area of the surface with an underwater marking pen, if the dye appears to be sucked into a crack or hole. This indicates water is exiting through this area and must be repaired.
- 4). Test the entire surface of the pool to find all areas where water may be leaking out. Mark each area where the dye is sucked in, using the underwater marking pen.
