What Graduates Can Expect From The Work World In 2010
According to the National Associate of Colleges and Employers, college hiring for entry level jobs is up for the first time this academic year. Although the amount of companies who say they are going to hire recent grads has decreased substantially since our economy was in better shape, there was a slight increase from last year, with 24% of companies surveyed in a CareerBuilder survey said they were hiring new college grads (as opposed to 2009s 23%).
Not only is the amount of entry level jobs available for recent grads growing, but those companies have also said they are hiring more recent grads than they did last year.
Here are some interesting stats on the amount of entry level jobs for recent grads in 2010:
44% of employers intend to hire recent grads
Of those companies hiring recent grads, 21% intend to hire more students than they did in 2009
16% of those companies will offer higher salaries than they did in 2009
33% of those companies will offer less than $30,000
With this new information, recent grads might have more reason to bring themselves, and their resumes, to the top of the pile. Entry level jobs might be looking at people fresh out of college, but depending on the city you work in and what level position youre looking at, many companies are also hiring mid-level employees, and even using recent grads as interns . Here is a list of things companies are looking for in their new employees right out of college:
Internships
Part-time jobs in another area of field
Volunteer work
Class work
Involvement in school organizations
Involvement in managing activities for Greek life
Participation in sports
