How to Open a Locked Interior Door
- 1
Flathead Screw Doorknow
Some door knobs, like this one, can be open by simply inserting and turning a flathead screwdriver. - 2
Special Key
Some door knobs come with a special key that can be inserted into a small hole in the middle of the knob and turned to unlock it. If you do not have this key, you may be able to order it from the door knob manufacturer but you can probably just use a very narrow flathead screwdriver instead. Just insert the tool (or the screwdriver) into the hole and turn it. This should unlock the door. - 3
Inserting Metal Hanger
Some door knobs have a push button lock. These can be opened simply by pushing something long and narrow, such as a metal hanger, into the hole. - 4
Useing a Credit Card
If none of the above methods work for you, you can try prying the wood strip from the door just enough to get a credit card (or similar device) in between the wood strip and the door frame. Push the credit card in so that it causes the metal tongue to retract in it's hole, thus allowing the door to open.
