Basically, there are two parts of your mind. The conscious part - which is what you`re using right now as you make a conscious decision to read this article. And the subconscious part, which is where all our memories, deep emotions and the habits that make us who we are as human beings are stored. Think of the last time you overate because you were feeling particularly emotional. Was it a conscious decision or was it something that you did on the spur of the moment because you felt unhappy, unloved, lonely or bored perhaps? Did you eat the food in a controlled and civilized way or was your aim to get it into your mouth as quickly as possible to stuff down the bad feelings that you were experiencing?

My guess is that you weren`t really hungry the last time you had a binge and you ate to satisfy an emotional need or simply out of habit. And where are deep rooted emotions and habits stored? Yep, in the subconscious mind.

So, to explain why your previous diets may not have worked in the long term, whenever you try to limit your food intake without addressing what`s causing you to WANT to overeat, you`re pretty much wasting your time.

But, it`s difficult to access the deeper level of mind on your own. From there you can discover what is causing you to overeat and begin to install new programs of healthy eating and positive habits.
