      Baytown is on the Texas Gulf Coast, situated on Galveston Bay between the Trinity and San Jacinto Rivers. There are more than 40 parks in town and just seven miles away are two historic sites: San Jacinto Battleground and Battleship Texas. About 25 miles away in neighboring Houston is Sheldon Lake State Park. Although there are numerous places to see in the region, visitors to Baytown don't have to leave its boundaries to find entertaining and educational attractions.

    Baytown Nature Center

    • Baytown Nature Center is an educational and relaxing venue for all ages. The center occupies 450 acres on two connected peninsulas: San Jacinto Point and the Natural Area. The peninsulas are surrounded by three bays. San Jacinto Point, with large oak trees and manicured grass, includes three fishing piers, an observation deck, a shoreline walkway and a playground. The Natural Area includes a butterfly garden and five miles of nature trails where visitors can observe plants, birds and animals.

    Yepez Vineyard

    • Baytown's Yepez Vineyard is young, having planted its first grapes in 2005. A winery is nestled among the vineyards and is open for wine tastings. On weekends, Yepez Vineyard has entertainment such as live music and grape stomping. During the summer the vineyard hosts concerts and festivals and is available for weddings and other special events. There is also a playground for children.

    Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center

    • Situated on Goose Creek, the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center is for education and recreation. Each year the center hosts thousands of students, who learn about wetlands, their importance and their inhabitants. Visitors can tour the 9,000 square foot Wetlands Ecology Learning Trail where they can learn how long objects such as plastic bottles take to biodegrade in salt water. Other exhibits include Gator World which has baby alligators, Butterfly Encounter which shows the butterfly's life cycle and Land of Milk and Honey which includes working honeybee hives. The center also includes a science lab, computer lab, aquariums and terrariums with reptiles.

    Houston Raceway Park

    • Houston Raceway Park is a multipurpose motor sports arena that holds 30,000 fans for weekend races. The park has a NASCAR speedway and a drag racing strip. On Friday nights the park has street racing that provides fans with the opportunity to race each other. The park also hosts motorcycle races and offers drag racing lessons during the week. The park's tower building includes control facilities that have state-of-the-art scoring and timing features. The tower also includes a media center and VIP suites.
