    • 1). Obtain the sunrise and sunset times for your area on a specific day. Several websites such as Time and Data, Sunrise Sunset and the US Navy offer tools to determine the sunrise and sunset times for specific dates.

    • 2). Change the hours to military times. If the sunset time is 6 p.m., this is 18 in military time.

    • 3). Subtract the sunrise hour from the sunset hour. Subtract the amount of minutes for the time at sunrise from the amount of minutes for the time at sunset.

    • 4). Record the hours and minutes to determine the amount of daylight there was on that specific day. The final result will be in hours and minutes, such as 9 hours and 35 minutes.
