Black and Decker Batteries
Some manufactures offers an improve version of these batteries, using different battery cells like NiMH and Lithium Ion instead of the usual NiCad. NiMH and Lithium Ion can store more power in less quantity, meaning you can make a battery half the size of the standard battery with the same or equivalent capacity. They cost almost double too though. Many people like them because they last longer, and allows you to do more job each charge. Some of the tools that are compatible with slide style battery include: Black and Decker drill, chain saw, alligator lopper, garden cultivator, shear/scrubber, Brad nailer and more. Pod style batteries are used by later models of Black and Decker cordless tools. They cannot be used in cordless tools using slide style battery. Like slide style battery they are also available in different voltages like 9.6V, 14.4V and etc. Another type of Black and Decker battery is the Versapack battery. This type of battery is used in compact all Versapack portable cordless tools like cordless screwdriver, pivot driver and etc. This type of battery has a cylindrical body and usually inserted in the handle grip of the tools.
Each type of battery has its own type of charger, some charger has multi-voltage and dual socket to fit both pod and slide style batteries. Versapak also has its own charger; some units are available wit 2, 4 and six slots so you can charge 6 batteries at a time. Before purchasing a charger makes sure that your charger is compatible with your existing battery. If you have a NiMH battery, you should use a charger for NiMH to avoid damaging both the charger and the battery or yourself.
You can purchase these batteries in the Tools section of most department stores. You can also find them for sale at the internet or online shops like Amazon and other merchants and authorized B&D suppliers. Just remember to consider the shipping cost when comparing prices.
