    • 1). Load the printer tray with clean, unused white paper.

    • 2). Open the "HP Solution Center" software and then click "Settings." Steps vary, but one way is to click "Start," "All Programs," "HP," "Solution Center."

    • 3). Click the "Services" tab and then click "Print PQ (print quality) diagnostic page." Then click "Print" in the "Print a Self Test Diagnostic Page" dialog box.

    • 4). Examine Test Pattern 1 on the print quality diagnostics page. If the lines are connected and lined up, stop here because the printheads do not need to be aligned. If the lines are disconnected and not straight, continue.

    • 5). Click the "Services" tab from the "Printer Toolbox" in the "HP Solution Center."

    • 6). Click "Align the Printheads" and then click "Align" in the "Align Printheads" window.
