How to Add the USB Header Ports to a Computer

    • 1). Power down the computer system. Once the operating system has shut down, disconnect the cables and remove all of the Phillips screws attached to the back panel to unlock the computer case.

    • 2). Slide the case open to expose the interior of the computer. Look toward the large circuit board in the middle of the system; this is the motherboard. Locate where some of the current USB-based, internal hardware connects to the motherboard; here you'll find additional connection ports to add more internal connections.

    • 3). Insert the USB header adapter onto the available port on the motherboard, which will give you an added USB connection port on the computer's interior.

    • 4). Attach the USB connection port to any new hardware you want installed, then close the computer case, tighten the Phillips screws and insert the cables back into the computer system. Power on the computer; you are now ready to begin using the newly installed hardware.
